On Sunday, February 9, we celebrated Septuagesima Sunday, which is the beginning of a pre-Lenten observance in which we prepare ourselves for the coming discipline of Lent. In a spirit of penance, the priest wears violet vestments. A close-up of a particularly beautiful one can be seen below.
